AYTM Market Research quantifies YouTube popularity

Estudio de AYTM demuestra la popularidad de YouTube

It’s no coincidence that the online video-sharing website YouTube dominates the market since it’s the first thing digital video users think of before looking for any similar sites. In March 2013, AYTM Market Research presented a study to find out how popular YouTube really is and how much time users spend looking at it.The study chiefly shows that 60 percent of American Internet users visit YouTube at least once a week, some 22 percent visit the site every day, and almost 30 percent visit it several times a week. The most surprising percentages? A mere 14 percent of those interviewed said they hardly ever visit YouTube, while 9 percent said they never do.AYTM also studied the frequency with which Internet users watch videos on websites other than YouTube. Around 37 percent said they rarely use any other site but YouTube and 11 percent said they never do. Only 16 percent of interviewees said they watch videos a few times a month on other websites, while 27 percent do so several times a week. Despite that, the number of videos watched on other sites is dramatically fewer than on YouTube.EMarketer estimates that the number of viewers of online videos in the United States will increase by 6 percent in 2013 to reach a total of 182.5 million users.
