Patricio Hernández, CEO of Mega Chile
In the context of the panel Open TV Towards Multiscreen at NEXTV CEO Latin America, Patricio Hernández, CEO of Mega Chile, expressed that the future of open TV might be to be aired digitally and no longer through the air. Hernández said that in Chile TDT arrived too late.
“We are being forced by law to have US$60 to 70 million antennas and transmitters on hills and the trend is that people are consuming through other mechanisms. This investment will be obsolete very soon, and it makes more sense to do what they did in Japan, that the broadband connection is now a public service. The truth is that it is a technology that arrived late and our audience is moving into another trend,” he stated.
Along with Hernández, the panel was comprised by Daniel Zanardi, General Manager of Artear; Eric Jurgensen, CEO of América TV from Peru; Luis Ahumada, Director of Mediastream; Rohit Mehra, Senior for Americas at Conax, and Sergio Silva, Field Operations Manager for Latin America at AWS Elemental.
