Las Villamizar

Caracol Televisión started shooting the new superseries Las Villamizar, a historical drama with overtones of suspense and police thriller, set in the years of the independence of America, in which three upper-class sisters lead a double life as spies and infiltrators of the liberation army.

Las Villamizar will be portrayed by the Equatorian Shany Nadan (Bolívar), and the Colombians María José Vargas (La Reina del Flow), and Estefania Piñeres (La Viuda Negra). They will face the Spanish army, led by Coronel Montenegro, responsible for his mother’s death, 12 years ago. They will be trained by their father to avenge her death.

Lisette Osorio, VP of International Sales at Caracol Television, commented: “Our expertise in the production of superseries has taken our seal of quality worldwide. On this occasion, we will present an original and fresh story, framed in a period context, that will give new airs to the market with powerful female characters and a high dose of suspense and action”.

Dago García, VP, Production, and Content at Caracol Televisión, explained: “Las Villamizar is part of the line of epic historical stories we have been producing for several years, which combine high production standards, melodrama, and adventures, and have managed to create a global audience that enjoys and demands them, and this makes us greatly pleased”.

The producer Juan Carlos Villamizar highlighted the challenges that shooting during the pandemic implies, and claims they at the forefront of implementing virtual reality mechanisms to reduce the use of sets and maintain the concept of each scene, without losing the magic of exteriors.

The production, to be shot in sets in Santander, Villa de Leyva, and the outskirts of Bogota, will have costumes and art inspired by the aristocratic classes of the XIX century. It is written and directed by Mateo Stivelberg, who shares credits in direction with Herney Luna and in the scripts with Juan Carlos Aparicio.
