For Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, ad blocking is not a new phenomenon. The executive made it clear that for now, ad blocking does not pose a problem for the giant search engine. “It is a problem that affects the entire industry and we need to collectively do all that better” warned Pichai, who admits that the advertising industry needs to improve everything related with ads, since the phenomenon is a response to users’ rejection to being constantly bombarded with online advertising. Google is working to improve the speed at which pages load on mobile devices, as well as on improving relevance of ads. The executive said that the number of advertisers who use Google’s programmatic ad platform has duplicated in the last 18 months.
