THEMA América closed an agreement with the second most important cable operator in Bolivia, Cotas, for the distribution of Kanal D Drama and CincoMAS. “Before that, three months ago, we had already launched Kanal D Drama in Movistar Peru,” mentioned Patrick Rivet, CEO of THEMA America.
Rivet announced the company´s entrance in content licensing and distribution towards Latin America that will have its headquarters in THEMA´s office in Mexico. They hope it will be ready for March when they will reveal more details and announce the name of the executive in charge of this unit. “This is another step for us in our development to offer content in the region,” he mentioned. The contents will be mainly films from Studio Canal and from third parties.
He commented that THEMA´s parent company acquired the classical music channel Mezzo and that THEMA has plans to develop it in Latin America. This year, they have the celebration of Beethoven´s 250th anniversary. “We are seeking to partner with cultural channels in Latin America to provide them with programming blocks to celebrate this anniversary,” he said. Additionally, they offer to adapt the content into Spanish for different territories. “We can think of distribution à la carte or another option,” he assured. According to Rivet, the message behind all this is that it is necessary to diversify.
