A change in demographics within Hispanic Millenials (those aged 18 to 29) is shifting television preferences. While young Hispanic viewers of previous generations watched Spanish-language TV, now more are tuning into English content. Today, 59% of Adult Hispanic Milennials were born in the US, according to the Simmons Fall 2011 NHCS adult survey. Meanwhile, 34% of Latinos older than 30 are U.S. natives. Almost 70% of Hispanic adults live in a bilingual household, though younger Latinos have a less-involved attitude toward language than earlier generations because they grew up in a bilingual world. In regards to television, young Latinos consume more English content, but also want better representation within entertainment platforms. In a study done by the company Maximo, 64% of young Hispanics said they would be more likely to attend a movie if it had a story about Latinos in the U.S., a story about Latinos in Latin America, or a Latino lead in an ensemble cast. They also responded that they would like to see more bilingual and bicultural content on television.
