This year, WAPA Televisión of Puerto Rico plans to return to producing films like it did some years back. We stopped producing movies four or five years ago because of the economy of the island, but now with the synergy created with Cinelatino, which belongs to the Hemisphere Media portfolio of channels, there are some new opportunities, said to PRODU, José Ramos, president of WAPA Televisión, adding that the channel has produced locally about 38 movies. Were in the stages of pre-production and screenplay adaptations. If this goes well, after four or five projects in one year, we want to create a production center exclusively for movies; a film boutique, commented Jimmy Arteaga, VP of Programming & Promotions at WAPA TV.The project considers several options, such as international distribution, and not just producing movies for TV, but also for theaters.Being part of a bigger group is important. The support of Hemisphere has been incredible, because a portfolio of Spanish-language channels is being created where synergies can be leveraged among all channels, added Arteaga.
