Carlos Quintanilla de Telemundo

Carlos Quintanilla, VP of Original Content Development at Telemundo Streaming Studios, who reports to Juan Ponce, Senior VP and General Manager of Telemundo Streaming Studios (TSS), said that the world of streaming has taught them that now it’s not about competing, but of looking for alliances to create better content.

Quintanilla, who attends Iberseries and participated in the talk “Hunting for talent: contemporary gold and its impact on narratives,” stressed that he loves going to festivals and content markets because they are a great opportunity to find out what is the competition doing.

“We are in a great moment of markets becoming relevant and I want to go everywhere to understand what is happening in the industry, proposing alliances and different games in many territories. Iberseries is a great opportunity to bring together the creators and the content industry in Spanish, which is having an incredible relevance in the world,” he said.

He pointed out that content in Spanish has a great ability for traveling. “We are in a great moment where we have to be very precise, read the content thoroughly, and work on it to continue to make an impact on the audience that speaks Spanish and those that do not but are eager for that Latin content. This is also a great moment where the world is turning its attention to content that in Spanish, which is translated into many languages and by using subtitles, reaches anywhere.”

Quintanilla, who in 2023 will celebrate 20 years as a teacher, emphasized that training is the best way to empower emerging talents and those who are looking for an opportunity. “Training to be a great storyteller is the way to reach an industry like ours, TV, which is hungry for new stories, proposals, and talents,” he said.

His portfolio includes the creative direction of Armas de Mujer (Til Jail Do Us Part), which premiered on the 15th on Peacock in the US as the first original content in Spanish on the platform, and which debuted this Thursday the 29th on HBO Max in Latin America. “It’s something worth celebrating, it’s fun, feeling good content, with spectacular actresses and a very interesting direction.”
