The Telemundo Station Group announced that it will be dispatching a team of six journalists to Russia to deliver special coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 which begins on Saturday, June 17 and concludes Sunday, July 2.
The journalist team will include sports anchors Verónica Contreras from Telemundo 47 New York / WNJU and Jaime Becerril from Telemundo 62 Philadelphia / WWSI. Both will deliver original content for local audiences across all platforms, including on-air, online and via the stations’ mobile apps.
The two anchors will host Minutos Rusia, a feature story segment that will air during the stations’ local newscasts and give local audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the tournament as well as cultural context about the tournament’s host country, Russia.

As the official Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup in the U.S. through 2026, all matches will air live on Telemundo, including local Telemundo stations and on Universo network. Live coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 begins on Saturday, June 17 at 9am ET.
