(Maribel Ramos-Weiner). In response to Generation YLA, the most recent research study conducted by Telemundo Communications Group, the new dramela (new genre) produced by Telemundo Studios for mun2 will feature dialogs in Spanish, English and Spanglish.“Depending on the character, they will speak the language that comes more natural to them,” said to PRODU, Jackie Hernández, COO of Telemundo. The dramela will be named RPM Miami and will consist of 13 one-hour episodes. It will premiere in May in mun2’s primetime.“One of the most important conclusions of the study is that new generations of Latinos have a strong retro-acculturation, and that is why younger audiences are watching us. We want to make sure we are connecting with them because they are our core audience. Telemundo target audience’s mean age is 32-33 years, while for mun2 it is 23,” added Hernández. She explained that through this study, Telemundo executives realized many young Hispanics are proud of being bilingual. “We want to continue bringing this element to our telenovelas. Although most of the dialog is in Spanish, there will be times were characters will speak English or Spanglish. We’ve done it before with Más sabe el Diablo,” she added.“I believe one of the reasons younger generations are more connected to their Hispanic roots is because nowadays it is very cool to be Latino. This is true not only in Los Angeles, but in every market,” said Hernández. The executive pointed out that among the upcoming research studies, there will be one on Latino consumption of 360º media.
