Telemundo Media has licensed the rights to broadcast multiple feature films from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. The agreement brings box office hits to U.S. Spanish-language television audiences for the first time. Films debuting as part of the licensing agreement include Monsters vs. Aliens and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek in 2012; Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2013; and Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise and Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek, in 2014. “Our audience expects to see high-quality programs not only in our original productions but in all of the programming we air across the network. This new deal allows us to continue to deliver the very best in animation including many of our audience’s favorite blockbuster productions, providing entertainment the entire family can enjoy together,” said María Iregui, VP of Program Planning and Scheduling for Telemundo Media. “We are delighted to be working with Telemundo to bring some of our biggest box office hits to Spanish-speaking audiences,” said Dina Vangelisti, SVP Domestic TV Licensing, Paramount Home Media Distribution. A previous agreement covered 12 titles, including the Spanish-language television premieres of Shrek the Third, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, among others. The films that have aired have been ratings successes, with Transformers garnering 1,390,000 Total Viewers (Persons 2+), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen earning 1,329,000 Total Viewers and Shrek the Third with 1,285,000 Total Viewers, according to Nielsen.
