The Empire State Building will shine red on Sunday, April 26, in honor of Telemundo 47 New Yorks semi-centennial anniversary. Owned by NBCUniversal, Telemundo 47 New York / WNJU is Telemundos local television that serves Spanish-language viewers in the New York Tri-State area. Launched in 1965, Telemundo 47 was the first local television station to air Spanish-language programming in the New York market.We are excited to celebrate our 50-year anniversary with our viewers and honored that the world-famous Empire State Building will shine red for Telemundo 47. On the evening of Sunday, April 26, viewers from all across the New York Tri-State area will be able to look up to the beacon of our skyline as it beams in red, in honor of our stations past and the promise of our future as we reaffirm our commitment to be the first informers our communities demand and deserve, said Cristina Schwarz, president and general manager, Telemundo 47.Telemundo 47 has experienced a significant boost in its local news operations, thanks to an investment made by NBCUniversal in its Telemundo stations to better serve Spanish-language communities. Today, Telemundo 47 produces more than 20 hours of local news and programming each week and provides viewers with local newscasts seven days a week.
