Gustavo Aparicio de Spanglish Movies
2024 will be a year filled with projects for Spanglish Movies. Gustavo Aparicio, CEO of the company, spoke about their three main bets. The first is Tío Papi, a two-season series that has just won an award at Natpe and has the support of several Miami organizations.
“The idea is to film three episodes in the spring and three in the autumn,” said Aparicio, who mentioned they were at Content Americas making pitches and presenting the project to potential interested partners.
He said their Film Distribution Unit is involved in Capitán Avispa, an animated film written and produced by the singer Juan Luis Guerra, which will premiere next April in the Dominican Republic, US, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina, among other Latin American countries (also expected to arrive in Spain in May). The cast includes famous artists such as Luis Fonsi.
Another title is Odisea, a biopic of the singer Ozuna. Caribbean Cinema produced the film with a budget of 6 million dollars. The executive producer was Ozuna, who will also play himself in the film. Spanglish Movies will handle the distribution in theaters. “We believe it has enormous potential worldwide because Ozuna has billions of views on YouTube, a potential that exceeds US Hispanic and Latin America,” Aparicio noted.
Aparicio said they are looking for platforms that “fall in love” with these projects and aiming to reach their targeted audiences (kids in the case of Tío Papi and a teenager in the case of Odisea).
