Spanglish Movies and United Palace promoting Bachateria live event in New York

Bachateria was created to educate the Hispanic community about the music genre ‘bachata’, where it comes from, how it developed, and its evolution. Bachateria’s first major live event will be held on August 5 at the United Palace in New York. It is organized by the United Palace of Cultural Arts, with the support of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the City Council. The organizers are working with Spanglish Movies to develop the content and to promote and market the initiative.

Our partnership is a source of tremendous pride as it highlights the deep respect and appreciation that United Palace, ULM, Spanglish, and Bachatería have for the vibrant Latino community in New York City. The show will be a lot of fun,” said Gustavo Aparicio, Managing Director of Spanglish Movies.

“Bachata was born in the Dominican Republic and its second home is New York, where it has been given more support,” said Juan C. Vargas, Co-founder of Bachateria.

Bachateria will be featuring performances by Judy Santos, Joel Insuperable, JFab & Paola Fabres, Valerio, Wilven Bello, Liza + Willie, and a special presentation by Afro-Dominicano.

Judy Santos said that she has been singing bachata for many years. “It’s a genre that has traditionally been dominated by men and as a woman, it was difficult for me to become part of this musical genre.”

Vargas said that, in addition to the concert, they are producing a 90-minute documentary about bachata.
