Sony Pictures Entertainment: Our Latina series have found a formula that allows for topic variety such as types of heroes

Álex Marín, executive International Distribution VP for LatAm, the Caribbean and Canada, at Sony Pictures Entertainment expressed to PRODU that both production quality as well as number of hours that are being produced in Latin America are a new thing. “But more than that, over time we have managed to find a way to partner with TV stations that are who actually have a relation with TV viewers. The key has been to find a formula that allows variety, both regarding topics and types of heroes”, he said. “We made a series about a mariachi whose hero was a kid mistaken for a criminal; another one about a man who has cancer and must become a criminal, Metástasis. We have series with strong female characters like Lady… and Anónima. Also, El Dandy, about a policeman who filters into the underworld and starts to confuse one world with the other. In the end, it is about what crime does to people and how to combat it”.He reported that these original series were very well placed in the region. “They are products with several destinations, Lady… has been sold in many countries, it is being aired in Colombia and has done very well; Anónima has been sold to a few places, including the US and, as we already announced in Mipcom, El Dandy was commited to Turner for Latin America”.
