Luis Guillermo Villanueva, COO, SOMOS Next, considers consolidation one of the current streaming trends. While for Edward Allen, COO of Pantelion Films and Pantaya the adjustment of the SVOD and AVOD models is another important tendency. And Adam Waltuch, Senior VP of Streaming Alliances at TelevisaUnivision, mentioned the hybrid model that his company has adopted and the shift in the distribution model “where there are many creative ways to deliver content.”

The executives participated in the Partnership Discussion panel: Embracing Program Partnerships for Streaming, led by Juanjo Durán, head of Entertainment and Multicultural Content at Google, with whom all the companies involved have examples of partnerships.

Allen mentioned that the alliance with Google has succeeded in reducing involuntary churn for Pantaya. “Google has been a wonderful partner and has been committed to Pantaya,” he noted.

“The opportunity is there to be seized. We are here to serve the Hispanic audience”, said Waltuch, whose ViX+ streaming targets the world’s 600 million Spanish speakers. He added that they have noticed that the further they go into the south of the continent, the more specific they have to be. “We have plans to develop local strategies as well,” he said. Among the most outstanding contents of the service, he mentioned the series María Félix, Marea Alta, and Travesuras de la Niña Mala. “We have to be original, new. The consumer who at this point is paying for replays is very 2008-style.”

Allen added that part of the success of Pantaya, a service recently acquired by TelevisaUnivision, has been the development of good scripts. “Original content has been the most important part of our success.”
