In April, 2016, Benavides travelled to Ecuador to offer live, on-the-ground coverage of the massive Ecuadorian earthquake. For nearly a week, Benavides met with earthquake victims, interviewed local officials and provided critical information for loved ones residing within Tri-State area. Benavides also filed updates for sister station NBC 4 New York / WNBC.
More than 350,000 Ecuadorians currently reside in the Tri-State area. Ecuadorian law permits residents residing abroad to participate in this year’s elections.
