The recent Florida Media Market 2013 (FMM) held in Miami Beach, saw the announcement of the first fund to finance the production of film and TV (both in English and Spanish), in Florida. The fund started out with US$20 million.The first two projects to be financed are the films Nocturnal and Sin-cera.Maritza Guimet, founder and CEO of FMM, said to PRODU that Juan Carlos Zapata and Jack Lenz of Canadas Lenz Entertainment partnered for this fund. Ed Arenas, a Lenz representative and Zapata made the announcement at FMM.This fund is not geared to amateur directors, but to people with experience in the area. It will help package the projects and finance up to 60% of them, with the remaining 40% coming form each applicant, said Guimet.The executive said that this years Florida Media Market was much more direct than other years. There were more deals made because participants were better prepared to pitch to producers, co-producers and distributors.Guimet pointed out there were newcomers projects that raised great interest, such as the one presented by young Mexican Verónica Ángeles and the American Health Coaches project, pitched by four young entrepreneur women, which deals with alternative medicine. The executive also touted the first edition of the Shift Awards, presented by María Conchita Alonso.
