Netflix announced, at its event “Hecho en Argentina” the new coproductions it will be soon undertaking with local production companies such as K&S Films, Kenya Films, Haddock, and Patagonik, as well as the expansion of the catalog of titles produced in the country. Francisco “Paco” Ramos, VP of Content for Latin America at Netflix, underlined the importance of content and local talent to connect with audiences in the countries.

“Netflix’s objective is to entertain, but we quickly realized that without local content in each country in which we operate, the relationship with them is distant, and lacks intimacy and commitment,” he said.

He pointed out that impact and innovation are vital to advance and building for the future. “We have to take into account Argentinians’ expectations in each of the pieces of content we make. If these series, films, and documentaries are not superior, do not have a unique look, and do not have the look of those who truly understand what is happening in Argentine society. We lose the reason why we invest. The impact goes hand in hand with the directors, producers, scriptwriters, and talent.”

Ramos also highlighted that there are many young people starting in the industry and that they are the future of Argentina’s audiovisuals. “It is qualified and well-paid jobs, something that society needs and that the audiovisual industry possibly is able to provide better than any other. All this is very complicated without investment and, therefore, we are committed to keeping investing in the country.”
