Netflix launched in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay

After its deployment in Brazil, Netflix launched this Wednesday the 7th in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Netflix offers a wide variety of movies, telenovelas, documentaries, children programming, and series from major and independent studios such as Paramount, Sony Pictures Television, NBC Universal International Television, CBS Television, ABC Television, MGM, Lionsgate, Summit, Miramax, Relativity and BBC Worldwide. It also offers content from Latin American producers and distributors such as Bandeirantes, Televisa, Telemundo, TV Azteca, TV Globo, Caracol, Telefe, and Disney.Reed Hastings, Co-founder and CEO of Netflix, said during his presentation in Buenos Aires, that there will be thousands of hours of programming available, which he plans to double within the next three to six months.Hastings also said Netflix is a complement to pay TV since it only offers series and movies and not news or sports, two of the genres he believes attracts the most subscribers.Regarding windows, Hastings said that in the case of series, they will premiere the seasons previous to the ones airing on U.S. free TV, such as CBS, NBC and ABC, and movies that date from 2010 and earlier.He also pointed out that as bandwidth improves, image quality will improve, and that the service will soon be available for computers, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii. It will be available for Samsung, LG and other smart TV’s, Internet ready Blu-ray players and a variety of mobile devices.
