La Americana follows Carmen, a single mother who is forced to leave Bolivia
Nat Geo Mundo has announced a Mothers Day special that tells the story of one woman who voyages on a dangerous and illegal journey from Bolivia to the US. Based on a true story, La Americana follows Carmen, a single mother who is forced to leave her country in order to be able to make enough money to save her daughters life. The documentary will make its premiere on Nat Geo Mundo May 13 at 8pm. La Americana, which was filmed across five countries, won Best Documentary awards from the New York Latino Film Festival, Ojai Film Festival and Urbanworld Film Festival, along with a Special Jury Mention at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival.
