This past July 18th at the 12am, Mexico and Latin America’s first analog black out went on without a glitch. It took place in Tijuana in the state of Baja California. At that time, private TV stations (such as Televisa and Azteca), as well as public ones (such as Once TV México), suspended their analog signals and migrated their broadcasts to digital terrestrial TV systems (DTTV). “This is Cofetel’s third attempt to switch off analog in Tijuana. (…) Televisa did its part suspending its signals at the first minute of the day. (…) According to Cofetel, Televisa switched off analog channels 6, 12 and 57 in Tijuana. (…) Televisa emphasized it will take all necessary measures for a successful transition to digital TV in Mexico,” said the company on its Twitter feed.Azteca also suspended its analog channels 21 and 27 early in the day.Fernando Borjón, Head of the Radio and Television Division of the Federal Telecommunications Commission (Cofetel), said the process freed the 700MHz frequency in the region. “With the switch off of channel 57, which used the frequencies 728-734 MHz at 3,600 kW, the 700 MHz frequency in Tijuana is now free,” he said.It was also reported that at the 11:35pm, the last signal to suspend its analog transmission in Tijuana was Telemundo channel 33, which covered the San Diego-Tijuana region.
