Melissa Escobar, general VP of LatinWE, will make history this month by becoming the first Colombian-American executive producer of a Latin American series (Killer Women) pitched by her company and acquired by ABC for its primetime starting January 2014.She gets double the credit because in September LatinWE will be the first independent production company pitching Latin American fiction projects to Hollywood.After 21 years of her beginnings as a Univision producer, Escobar will see her dream realized when she travels this month to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to supervise as executive producer the production of the first seven episodes of Killer Women, the Pol-Ka series acquired by LatinWE for the U.S. general market.I hope this is the first of many Latin American projects we produce for the general market, said Escobar to PRODU during an interview at the new LatinWE offices in the area of Wynwood, near Midtown Miami. The company also has offices in Doral, FL and on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Escobar touched on important topics such as production budgets in Hollywood and her strong belief about this being the right moment for Latinos in the U.S.
