Korea Content Platform (KCP) LLC, based in California and comprised by the three main Korean television stations KBS, MBC and SBS, was established to offer its content to the market of the Americas.

“It took us around six months to determine if this was the best strategy and the OTT and SVOD Kocowa (Korean Content Wave) services were launched,” expressed Al Estrada, Business Development VP at KCP.

The platform is entirely subtitled into English.

Estrada highlights that they have a YouTube (Kocowa) channel they launched last year and they already have 1.8 million users.

“The strategy with YouTube is to offer miniclips that give us very important support with our coveted content in Generación Z and millennials that are who most watch our content and grow very rapidly,” he comments.

The Company has several business models, one of them is consumer’s direct subscription. This service began in July 2017, at a cost of US$6.99 per month in the US or US$0.99 cents per day.

Another has been including the service in platforms like Viki that is available in the Americas. A third one is through traditional operators; they have already reached an agreement with a big one in the US.

The fourth model is to distribute the content in Latin America dubbed into Spanish, since there is a great demand for this programming. “We have already made more than 6 thousand hours, ready to e dubbed in Latin America,” he mentioned. The genres range from drama (novelas and scripted from the TV stations that comprise KPC), varieties and K-Pop (Korean bands).

Estrada will attend NATPE and MipCancún to present this content.
