José Oramas is one of the most senior employees at Telemundo Puerto Rico, company that celebrated on Thursday, March 28, sixty five years of its foundation. Oramas has been the voice of the channel, since he has worked there for 60 years.

He tells the story in detail of how he began working in Telemundo on March 28 at 1959 at 1pm. When he turned 50, he retired from the channel, but continued to do the commercial presentations of the channel. Oramas says it seems he started working there yesterday, “because it is part of my life.”

“I come from black and white,” he mentions, and describes how they moved from Puerta de Tierra to the new building in 1967, and how, together with Ángel Ramos, its founder, he would walk on the foundations of the building, and how he saw everything before starting and becoming what it is nowadays.

“Television was black and white and everything was manual and live. Now, it is all recorded with lots of time in advance so we can correct mistakes that are made daily in this business, but it used to be very different. In the past, the announcer closed the channel live. I was the last person to close Telemundo Puerta de Tierra and the first person who opened here live in the Tower”.

He explains the way technology has evolved in the industry: “From black and white , and color to digital, from digital to high definition. Everything is ultramodern. How were we going to imagine that we were going to have high definition in television when we were in Puerta de Tierra and talked about colors, we laughed at one another, but now we have colors and high definition, look how far we´ve come”.
