José Díaz-Balart, journalist and anchor on Noticiero Telemundo, who has multiple decades of experience on TV within the Hispanic market of the U.S., and who recently received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hispanic Television spoke with PRODU about his experience in the market. “It’s been fascinating to be a witness of the evolution of the Hispanic community in the U.S. for the last 30 years, since I’ve been in the journalism world. It shocks me that with 50 million Hispanics and a purchasing power on the rise that some people still don’t understand the power of this community,” he expressed. Díaz-Balart explained that despite all that has been achieved within the niche, there is still a long way to go from the perspective of the media. “We can count with our fingers the Hispanic executives that are on the English-speaking media. Though it has to be mentioned that NBC has made a grand effort in incorporating the Hispanic community. At Telemundo, we have meetings daily with all the executives at NBC when the news is being planned. That’s an important step, but there’s still a long way to go,” he finalized.
