Jorge Granier, CEO of Pongalo
The OTT platform Pongalo is officially launched on Thursday November 10 in the US with more than 10 thousand hours of content on their app. Pongalo will have debuts like Piel Salvaje and Corazón Traicionado from RCTV and the series Talión with Scarlet Ortiz, as well as El Cartel 1 and 2 from Caracol TV, and the Argentinean Historias de Diván by Yair Dori and content from the US with their partners Revolution Studios (titles such as Gigli, Maid in Manhattan, Hellboy, Lágrimas Bajo el Sol, among others).
“Initially we began licensing content to companies like Netflix and Hulu in the US and then we entered YouTube where we realized Pongalo had many followers and started developing it. Pongalo is a digital company. We distribute content to third parties. We have a network on YouTube and our own platform that is Pongalo’s OTT app. All our effort is aimed at the app that works with a monthly US$5,99 subscription” explained Jorge Granier, CEO of Pongalo. He added that they are studying the possibility of offering six month and annual subscriptions.
The platform is available worldwide, but initially they will focus on the US and Mexico as first markets.
“In Mexico we closed a deal with Telefonica in which we partner with them and they are going to load the application on more than 500 thousand of their mobile devices. In the rest of Latin America we might expand with Telefónica-Movistar,” he commented.
