12-year-old Edgard Hernández became the first Idol Kid of Puerto Rico
The inaugural edition of the unparalleled reality show competition Idol Kids and the second season of the groundbreaking sister show Idol Puerto Rico both came to a conclusion on Sunday and Monday nights, respectively, setting unprecedented records in Puerto Rican television. Both shows are original productions of WAPA Television.The grand finale of Idol Puerto Rico, which aired in front of a live audience on the evening November 12, reached a 78% audience share among Women 18-49, the highest-recorded rating in Puerto Rican television.The program averaged greater than a 50% share among all key demographicsmore than all of the other networks combined during the same timeframe. Seventeen-year-old student Gremal Maldonado was crowned as the first female Idol Puerto Rico after receiving the majority of the publics support. During Sunday nights highly-anticipated and star-studded grand finale of Idol Kids, 12-year-old Edgard Hernández became the first Idol Kid of Puerto Rico, singing the Spanish version of My Heart Will Go On. The November 11 finale of Idol Kids was the evenings highest-rated show in Puerto Rico, averaging a 43.4% audience share (27.2) among Households, while the nearest competitive station, Univision, achieved a 21.9% average audience share (13.8) during the semi-final of its own reality show competition,!Mira Quién Baila!.
