Rocío Sánchez Azuara, productora y conductora de Acércate a Rocío
Within the framework of International Women’s Day, host Rocío Sánchez Azuara spoke about her journey of becoming one of the most influential women in the audiovisual industry. With 35 years of experience, 15 of which have been focused on hosting talk shows, including Acércate a Rocío for TV Azteca. With this project, she made her debut as a producer and created the content-generating company Imán Producciones in partnership with producer Andrés Tovar.
“There is greater openness and equity [regarding gender], but not enough. There is less pigeonholing, we are given more space and we are respected more. Being a producer now is a dream come true, but it was a step-by-step process. I am a journalist covering news, but I felt uncomfortable and disagreed with some things in the production, so I decided to become the producer of my own talk show format, which is far from the concept itself because we have great research power,” she explained.
She recalled that at the beginning she was afraid to open her own production house. “I made the decision trembling because we all know that it is very risky and sometimes dreams don’t happen. But fortunately, it came true, and as always, Rocío Sánchez Azuara was put to the test. They did not believe that I was able to produce and host it at the same time, they did not believe that the content that I have always managed came from my head. They put me to the test, but fortunately, it worked and here I am again.”
She explained that Acércate a Rocío is a program that has implicit social service. The format has many values, it is filled with humanism, with the purpose of serving others to raise awareness among the population.”
She stated that she continues dealing with machismo; however, “the time has come to make myself known for what I am worth, for my 35-year career of hard work. I have the experience and the foundations needed to lead a show like the one I have. I’m still facing that every day, but I’m growing every day, that’s my goal.”
She announced that Imán Producciones has many projects on the horizon. “We began with mine, but we have several more, all of them content, including TV series, entertainment, fiction, that little by little we are releasing. We’re also having creative meetings with the different groups to make our company known. My dream is not just to be on the screen, but to empower all the people who have been in the industry for many years and have not been recognized.”
