PRODU spoke with Roy Meyeringh, general manager of Gentv, channel 8 in Miami, about the re-launch of the channel. “What we’ve seen, after various focus groups realized within the last year, is that the Miami viewer has limited options now a days, and that’s something that can be bettered with good content. We’ve revised known and new talent, known and new programs and we’ve come up with a combination that’s relevant for this market and is different than what is offered today” Meyeringh explained. He emphasized that the intentions of the channel are to focus on the market in Miami and Fort Lauderdale where Caracol TV, owner of Gentv, feels there are business opportunities because of the diverse audience (including those from Latin America, the Caribbean and those born in the U.S.). Meyeringh expressed that in light of the program changes with María Elvira and the two daily newscasts, the ratings are in favor of the primetime slot. “We’re trying to offer more local content, and at the moment, it’s double what we offered in the past. We have the capacity to go through with more productions, at least eight at this height, but we’ll see what happens in the future” he said.
