Derbez: I feel Im dispelling the myth that TV actors cant make good films
After the success in the U.S. of the film Instructions Not Included ( No Se Aceptan Devoluciones), Mexican producer and actor Eugenio Derbez brings to Mexico City this project, which will premiere in over 1,500 theaters across Mexico. The actor considers the film an important step in dispelling the myth that TV actors cant make good films. Also a writer, Derbez said his participation in the Televisa Deportes special coverage of the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil is still not clear, as he needs to focus on the development of his career. Its time to evolve; Ive given it all Ive got. It has been 20 years covering these events and its time to close this cycle. I need to do different things. At most, I would do only about five capsules, but its most likely I wont. Im still in conversations with Televisa, said Derbez.Regarding the film, he reminisced about his challenges to entering the world of movies: they would see me as a TV comedian, but this breaks the myth between film and TV: sometimes we dont have good products on TV, but there are lots of talented people who can do film. I hope I diffused prejudices. With sponsors such as Telcel, Infinitum, Sanborns and Inbursa, Instructions Not Included, is a movie that represents Mexico proudly because of its message and resonates with the U.S. audience. It fits the Academy Awards profile and, as a country, we have to be nominated or win, said Derbez.
