De Oro Media: Developing an anthology series on narco families in Mexico

Based on his experience in the music industry, Pete Salgado with his company De Oro Media is developing an anthology about five narco families in Mexico, under the title Negocio de Familia. They are accompanied by their partners Javier Morales and Sheyla Tadeo as executive producers. Salgado was executive producer of Univision´s Su Nombre Era Dolores.

The series, to be made in five parts, will dedicate the first delivery to Sandra Ávila Beltran, known as La Reina del Pacífico and whose story inspired the book by Arturo Pérez Reverte that gave origin to the TV series La Reina del Sur and Queen of the South. Each delivery will have 10 one-hour episodes.

Salgado founded De Oro Media in 2017, after the sales of the OTT platform TuYo. His intention was to create a company with all the production services. For that, he partnered with Tadeo and two other executives, one based in Mexico, to produce in that market.

With Negocio de Familia, Salgado strives to tell the story from the point of those families, present the human side of what it is to live in this world. “Narcos have become a subculture. There are families that live this life, but many have no other choice,” he added.

The series is currently in pre-production, script-writing, and photography. The plan is to start shooting no later than August. He mentioned that an important OTT platform will air the series first.

Along with this project, De Oro Media has several in development, both scripted as well as realities and formats. They are also adapting musical Latina stories for the Anglo market. One of them is a docu-drama on the band Voz de Mando titled Seeds of a Dream, which they will take to LA Screenings.
