CNN en Español celebrates its 15th anniversary
CNN en Español, CNNs award-winning 24-hour news network in Spanish, will mark its 15th anniversary on March 17, and celebrate with special programming initiatives and graphics throughout 2012. CNN began producing Spanish-language content 24 years ago, and launched the 24×7 channel in 1997 with what was at the time the largest pay TV launch in Latin American history. Since its inception, the channel has had its own dedicated team of Spanish-speaking journalists and news gathering teams, although it certainly enjoys access to the resources of CNN Worldwide. CNN en Español initially targeted the Latin American market, and is available today in 27 million pay TV households in the region. Approximately a year and a half-ago, CNN en Español made a strategic decision to widen its target to include the exploding Hispanic population in the U.S. The network made significant investments in programming and talent and initiated a rolling re-launch that to date has included: the appointment of 8 new anchors and 6 new correspondents; the launch of 10 new programs; the inauguration of a production hub in Miami and an entire new graphic look. CNN en Español has a robust digital presence through CNNEspanol.com and CNNMéxico.com, and an impressive social media footprint including the leading Spanish-language news handle on Twitter in the world and the second largest Spanish-language news page on Facebook in the world. The channel continues to set the bar in Latin America while also seeing impressive increases in both distribution and advertising sales in the U.S., where the channel now reaches 7 million households.
