Three of the biggest international news channels join forces to offer on-air time to public health entities in the aim to promote messages to combat coronavirus. BBC Global News, CNN International, and Euronews agreed to dedicate some advertising inventory valued in US$50 million. The three channels have a reach of more than 800 million viewers. The campaigns that get executed will be spread both on television and on digital platforms, with the ability to direct messages to audiences in specific regions.
It is the first time that the three channels get together for a joint initiative. The World Health Organization is the first entity to accept the offer. Its initial campaign will be centered on ten steps to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Accurate information is one of the best weapons in our collective arsenal to fight against the virus,” said Jim Egan, CEO of BBC Global News. For his part, Rani Raad, president of CNN International Commercial, commented: “Working with our competitors, I hope the combined effort has a positive impact”. “In these times of extreme difficulty for everyone, we have an even bigger responsibility to deliver accurate information to our audiences in real-time. But we want to go further,” added Michael Peters, CEO of Euronews.
They invite other public health agencies to get in touch with the channels through e-mail to internationalsales@bbc.com, cnnicmarketing@turner.com and sales@euronews.com.
