Colosio, El Asesinato
Cinelatino has closed a deal with distribution firm Alebrije Entertainment to acquire exclusive U.S. pay-TV rights to Colosio, El Asesinato (Colosio, the Assassination), the highly-controversial box office hit about the 1994 public assassination of Mexicos president-in-waiting, Luis Donaldo Colosio.Colosio was the highest-grossing Mexican film of 2012. The film was not released theatrically in the United States, making Cinelatino the first platform to make this film available to U.S. Hispanic audiences across the country.Directed by the highly-acclaimed, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Carlos Bolado, Colosio is a fictional account about the shadowy details surrounding Luis Donaldo Colosios murder, including the widely-believed conspiracy theories linking the killing to rival politicians in Colosios own Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which ruled Mexico for 70 consecutive years beginning in 1930.Colosio, El Asesinato is the most controversial and prestigious Mexican film of 2012, and we are proud to grant U.S. audiences first access to it just months after it opened theatrically in Mexico. Acquiring this type of unprecedented film is the best way we can make good on our promise to offer the greatest selection of Latino films on the market, said James M. McNamara, president of Cinelatino.
