The shooting of Canta y No Llores began. It is a new film produced by AF Films, BTF Media, and Ebribari Audiovisual in the Dominican Republic, which will hit theaters in Mexico in 2024. The film that fluctuates between realism and satire is directed by Felix Sabroso and written by Sabroso and Frank Ariza.

The film is about a family of women made up of Pepa, the matriarch (Consuelo Duval), Beli, the artist (Michelle Rodríguez), and her daughter Lucía (Patricia Maqueo), who live together with Toni (Paco Rueda), Pepa’s son and Belli’s stepbrother. The family runs a taco food truck. Fleeing from hazardous circumstances, the family moves from Mexico to the Dominican Republic, looking for a fresh start. There they meet Caro (Lumy Lizardo), an atypical representative of artists who offers to help Beli fulfill her dream of succeeding in popular music until a mobster lands on the Caribbean island looking to settle scores with Pepa and her family.

“Shooting Canta y No Llores brings me back to a type of comedy where I combine a portrait of women making a balance between the unexpected and reality, and it has been exciting, especially for the great Mexican cast, very inspiring for a director who sees the actors as an essential tool in his work. There is not a single sequence that I do not enjoy. Every day has been a gift. If I convey just a little bit of the fun involved, it will be a great success,” said Sabroso.

“Writing stories that empower women is a must at this moment. Canta y No Llores is a fresh and fun story showing the importance of family and love. Being able to produce in Latin American countries such as the Dominican Republic has been a very gratifying challenge,” said Frank Ariza, CEO of AF Films.

“Bringing stories with archetypes that help us connect with the audience and highlight culture is essential. Including such a rich culture as the Mexican in our content means adding value to our products. Canta y No Llores is a sample of Mexican our culture and women,” pointed out Francisco Cordero, CEO of BTF Media.

“Co-production structures allow us to promote the development of wonderful stories like Canta y No Llores, as well to broaden the impact of important artists and professionals that we are proud to bring together in a production of this level,” explained Desiree Reyes, producer of the film and CEO of Ebribari Audiovisual.
