In the context of the presentation An Antidote to the Modern World (Factual Entertainment, Documentaries), Mark Reynolds, director of Unscripted and Claire Newman, Head of Developement Strategy at BBC Studios highlighted that audiences remember moments through content development half a million tweets a day are dedicated to television,” they expressed.
They mentioned that although technoloy has advanced, the ingredients of a good show continue to be the same: “TV that makes them feel good is an escape.”
“Factual entertainment was the format area that grew most at a global scale in 2018,” quoted Newman. “Consumers want to feel good with a difference. Half of millennials are known to be aspirational consumers,” he added.
Some of the shows that were presented in the talk were Hurricane Man (8×45’) for the delivery in March 2019; Life Below Zero sixth season (it has already had 100 episodes on Nat Geo); Ultimate Top Gun (3×50’) for the delivery in July; Japan with Sue Perkins (2×50’) to be delivered in April; My Big Day: Home or Away (5×45’) ready for September; Sewing Bee season 5 (8×50’), ready in February; the documentary David Bowie: Finding Fame (1×90’), which is ready; and the 27th season of Top Gear (6×60’), that has been placed in 200 territories worldwide and will be available later in the year.
