Atresmedia is the company that opened the doors of Spain to Turkish drama ma product that had been succeeding in Latin America and other regions of the world.

NOVA, Atresmedia telenovela channel, programmed Fatmagül (Global Agency) in January 2018 and the success was overwhelming: with an average of 750.000 viewers, it became the most-watched series of all the thematic channels. They were followed by others: Madre, Amor de Contrabando, Sila, Fugitiva, Las Mil y Una Noches, Hercai, Ciudad Cruel. All by NOVA and successful.

In July 2020, they took a bigger risk and launched Mujer on Antena 3, Atresmedia’s main channel. Once again they reaped unprecedented success: 2,000,000 media viewers and leaders in their slot from the launch. In December 2020, they launched Mi Hija, which has accumulated a media of over 2,700,000 viewers and is also a leader in its slot.

The next step was to make the local version of some stories. “We were clear that it was a high-quality product that was succeeding globally, therefore we were thinking about adopting a story. We finally made up our minds and chose Fatmagül because it was a very strong story that had been extremely successful in all the markets it had been launched in,” explained José Antonio Antón, Deputy Director of Contents at Atresmedia.

Alba, the Spanish version of Fatmagül produced for Antena 3, will soon arrive on the channel with a pre-launch on ATRESplayer Premium. Meanwhile, they are already writing the scripts of the next adaptation: Madre (Kanal D). “It is the second most-watched Turkish series in the history of the channel (and of thematics in Spain), after Fatmagül, therefore it made sense that it was the following production chosen to make an adaptation”.

It is not the first time that Atresmedia adapts stories from other territories. In 2010, Gestmusic Endemol produced for Antena 3 Gavilanes (adaptation of Pasión de gavilanes de Telemundo, Caracol y RTI) y, más recientemente, en 2019, Diagonal TV realizó para Atresmedia El nudo (adaptation of the Argentinean novela Amar Después de Amar, from ViacomCBS), that in 2019 had its debut on ATRESplayer Premium and last month on Antena 3. “We are always open to adapting the best stories, wherever they come from,” said Antón.
