Epigmenio Ibarra, CEO of Argos Comunicación, announced on #VisitaPRODU that they decided to expand their studios thanks to the high demand of work they have. “At this moment, our six forums are busy and we already have commitments for eight. We want to make an investment and are in conversations with our partner, the engineer Martín Orozco, owner of the land where we are located, to plan this.”

Ibarra stated that the production company is currently making products thinking in Mexico, but is not making anything for Mexico. “Certain doors were closed to us for political reasons. And although this could change, our mission is to be seen as a production company that is fighting in a global environment.”

In the light of the arrival of the new government to Mexico, Ibarra has expectations. “The harmful dependence between power and media is going to be broken. It will be harder to remain, but it will imply combating with creativity. AMLO debates strongly, but I see a climate of freedom.”

Additionally, the executive believes that open TV is about to die, although it is still alive in Mexico. “The open TV model is in crisis because it is expensive and obsolete technology, and it contains what determines its death: advertising.”

As for the telenovela, Ibarra does not think it is going to die but that it will change. And he regrets that Azteca has decided not to produce more fiction. He thinks that both Azteca and Televisa have in their genetic code a way to make telenovelas that will die. “The easiest thing is to quit because changing the genetic composition is basically impossible because the structure of those two companies prevents the creative ferment.”
