AVISO: Mensaje de IBC 2010

The IBC Conference starts in just over a week’s time and there is still time to register. Always a highlight of the global broadcast industry calendar, this year’s Conference promises to be even more agenda-setting than ever, as it dissects the deployment of stereoscopic 3D, examines the rise of social media and its implications for content, and looks in detail at the world of sports broadcast. If you have yet to register for the Conference, you can still take advantage of pre-show prices that save you over €100 on a range of different passes. And if you have already registered, why not consider upgrading your pass? BSkyB to receive IBC Special AwardBSkyB is to receive a special award at IBC2010 for its initiative in launching the world’s first commercial stereoscopic 3D channel, Sky 3D. To do this it has tackled a huge number of challenges in a very short space of time. What content will work best in the stereoscopic 3D home, and how can that content be created within the budgets and timescales of television? How can the existing transmission infrastructure and installed base of set-top boxes carry the signal? What is the business model that will pay for it? The audience at the IBC Awards Ceremony, on Sunday 12 September in the Auditorium at 18:30, will therefore be treated to a selection of some of the finest, 3D originated content yet shown.Keynotes from Around the WorldIBC is privileged to host some of the leading industry figures from around the world. Nothing demonstrates this pre-eminent thought-leadership better than the opening Conference Keynote on Thursday 9 September, Does Public Service Broadcasting have a future?, which has a truly international, high-powered line-up. Keynoted by Sir Michael Lyons, chairman of the BBC Trust, other speakers in the session include: Vincent Curren, executive vice president & chief operating officer, CPB, Ingrid Deltenre, director general of the EBU; and Yoshinori Imai, vice president, NHK. Keynotes from Across the IndustryIBC2010’s keynote speakers range across the industry, giving the conference multidisciplinary depth to go with its global spread. Speakers at the Convention keynote, New routes to funding original content, include: Mike Darcey, chief operating officer, BSkyB; Linda Jensen, chief executive, HBO Central Europe; and Gerhard Zeiler, chief executive officer, RTL. The 3D Day keynote, Capturing stereoscopic images for live broadcast, will be delivered by Steve Schklair, founder & chief executive officer, 3Ality Digital – one of the most influential pioneers of the new wave of stereoscopic 3D. And Kent Novak, senior vice president at Texas Instruments, will deliver the technology keynote, Bigger, better, faster – can technology deliver? Keynotes at the Top of Their GameA special mention for Manolo Romero, managing director, Olympic Broadcasting Services, who is the winner of this year’s International Honour for Excellence. As well as accepting his Award he will deliver the Sports Day keynote: Olympics Games coverage – past, present & future on Saturday 11 September, taking a look at the history of Olympic broadcasting, the state of technology today, and reflecting on the excellent coverage of the Vancouver games earlier this year. The session will conclude with a look to the future, as Roger Mosey, the BBC head of London 2012, introduces some of the next innovations viewers will see in Olympic broadcasting.Upgrade to GoldThe Gold Pass, sponsored by Wenham Carter, is the ultimate way to experience the IBC Conference. Not only does it provide access to all the conference sessions, but adds a wealth of extras to make it a truly worthwhile investment. Gold Pass holders have access to reserved seating, the exclusive Gold Lounge (which includes lunch, refreshments & snacks, free wi-fi, private meeting rooms, and a concierge service); conference networking drinks events, post event access to audio and visual presentations (subject to copyright) and more. Book before the show and save over €120.The Newest TechnologyThe New Technology Campus (NTC) is the place at IBC where cutting-edge innovation becomes reality, allowing attendees a glimpse into the future. Its exhibits are chosen by members of the IBC Technical Papers Committee, and this year cover a typically eclectic range, including the SME42 project, which will demonstrate a complete end-to-end DVB-TS transmission system, and the APIDIS project, which will show the results of its quest to automate the production of video content and provide personalised summaries of controlled events such as sports. Free Movie ScreeningsThe 1,700-seat Auditorium in the RAI gives IBC the perfect opportunity to showcase the state of the art in digital cinema projection and audio. This year, two of the highest profile films of recent times receive special, free 3D screenings. The first sees Toy Story 3 screened at 18:30 on Saturday 11 September (courtesy of Buena Vista International), which is followed on Monday 13 September at 18:30 by the all-conquering Avatar (Special Edition), which is being shown courtesy of 20th Century Fox International and by kind permission of Lightstorm Entertainment. The Special Edition adds an extra 8 minutes of previously-unseen footage to the film.About IBCIBC is the premier annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide.
