Google developed a new version of its YouTube channel specialized for children, which came out on February, Monday 23rd. The application is free, has a very user friendly interface and all content is appropriate for children. It will only be available for tablets and phones that use the Android operating system.According to the website Mashable, the reason for this release is simple: “Kids love YouTube, but parents are always worried that content with their children may not be the most appropriate”. Shimrit Ben-Yair, project director, commented that “parents always ask us if we can make YouTube a better place for children”. Furthermore he stated that the consumption of family entertainment videos has had a growth of 200% in the last year.In addition to filtering content, the application will offer several features to allow parents to control what their children watch. One of these features is to establish a limit for the app to be used, after the limit is reached, it will automatically turn off the app and will ask for a password.
