Volkswagen, In & Out and CreativeOndemanD are back on the set after lockdown

In & Out completed its first relatively large-scale production after the lockdown due to Covid-19. It was a commercial for Volkswagen from the CreativeOndemanD agency, shot in Orlando at Universal Studios, a house in the area and a dealership of the automotive brand. The spot will be aired on Hispanic and general-market networks. “The campaign is very good, it’s about the reopening of businesses and a new service of car delivery for customers. It’s actually very uplifting and energizing,” said In & Out Executive Producer Frida Sellar. “One of the main challenges of the shoot was that SAG gave us more protocols for the actors than the ones we already had in place. Everyone had to use masks, gloves, hand sanitizers and fill out questionnaires, while individual makeup artists were there for each actor. The whole sanitation bit was to ensure safety on the set. There were approximately 40 of us in the crew accompanied by agency members, while the client followed us on Zoom.” For her part, Priscilla Marrero, founding partner of CreativeOndemanD, said that “the challenge of shooting on location during the pandemic was very interesting. As an agency, we didn’t want to settle for having actors at home shot through Zoom, since most of the commercials being aired now show the same thing. This commercial communicates the fact that we must all face this new reality with a great deal of optimism…which is why it was indispensable to go out and shoot it.” Sellar noted that the main lesson of this new experience is that people forget to take precautions. “We were always reminding everybody of the necessary precautions, and the truth is you do work slower because of all these measures. As the first production reflecting this truth of our times, it went well.”She said a growing number of productions are currently underway, but whether the volume of Covid-19 cases will increase at some point is as yet unknown. “In this scenario it helps to film locally, not bring people in from the outside,” she said. Sellar added that the In & Out offices had been entirely closed, with everyone working from home on entirely remote productions up to now. “Most of our team is freelance now because we haven´t received aid from the government. I have also been talking with other production companies about joining forces in order to help each other.”
