US Teens are more in love with YouTube stars rather than conventional celebrities

The Variety poll, which was performed last July, yielded surprising results: The five most influential figures among Americans ages 13 to 18 are from YouTube, eclipsing conventional celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Seth Rogen. Meanwhile, the most common celebrities were Smosh, Ian Andrew Hecox’s the comedy team online and Anthony Padilla, both 26.Despite having minimal exposure in the media, another comedy duo, known as the Fine Bros., Benny and Rafi, finished in a close second, followed by the Swedish videogamer who has the largest number of subscribers around YouTube, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie. Interestingly, the highest non-youtuber ranking is Paul Walker, who died tragically in a car accident in late 2013.The survey, conducted by Variety and led by brand strategist Jeetendr Sehdev, asked 1,500 people a series of questions that evaluate the global influence of 20 well-known personalities in terms of accessibility and authenticity. Sehdev found that YouTube stars scored significantly higher than traditional celebrities through a range of features that are considered to have the highest correlation to influence purchases among teens.The YouTubers are considered more attractive and relevant than traditional stars, which were described as smarter and more reliable. In terms of sex appeal, the two types of celebrities ended almost equal.
