Ukonwa Ojo, CMO of Coty, began her presentation at the 2018 ANA Multicultural Conference, mentioning data from current multicultural executives in the marketing and advertising industry. She mentioned that 9% of the executive population are of Hispanic origin, whereas 7% are Asians and 5% are Afro-American. “These figures just indicate that diversity on camera does not reflect behind cameras, in the product or in the organization itself” she highlighted. The executive presented Covergirl´s strategy for the multicultural market as a success case for Coty. “Covergirl is a brand that recognizes the impact we have on cultures. It is our job to make sure that all minorities are included in the community” she stated. She also enhanced the importance of cultural diversity in work teams, an aspect she feels is key for the success of the message to multicultures. “Without a diverse team, we are losing the value of diversity. There is no other way to understand it, if we don’t live it from the inside” she concluded.
