This is the moment Twitter investors have been waiting for. The microblogging network is developing a tool that will allow showing ads to users at its website, even if they arent logged in. According to estimations, 500 million people visit Twitter every month but not all of them have active user accounts. This announcement means that if you click on a tweet that appears in a Google search, for example, you may see ads on that tweet page or on the tweet creators profile. This is a huge deal for Twitter, or seems to be a right move, the shares went up about 7% in Wall Street after the news came out. Adam Bain, Twitter’s COO believes these new ads format can generate significant revenue to the company. The difference will be in the targeting, he explained. Instead of monetizing a users interests, Twitter will monetize the context in which a user comes across a tweet. For example, it may not know that the user likes baseball, but it knows it came to Twitter after searching for “baseball” on Google. Advertising accounts for 90% of the companys revenues, according to official estimates.
