The world now has a window on Latin Music called Cancion Exploder. The recently launched podcast series delves into the creative process of one Latino artist after another and shows the multicultural identity that influences them. The project was inspired by Song Exploder, whose creator, Hrishikesh Hirway, will be the executive producer of this Spanish-language version, while direction and coproduction will be handled by Martina Castro. “It’s time for Latin Music to take its place in the world. What’s more, this is added to the growing boom of podcasts in Spanish,” Castro said. The first season of Cancion Exploder features an eclectic selection of award-winning artists from the top level of Latin music, including Nathy Peluso, Jorge Drexler, Mon Laferte, Silvana Estrada, Jose Gonzalez, Ile & Adrian Quesada and Ibeyi. The first episode is now available, with Bomba Estereo breaking down his song Deja (Stop It) from his acclaimed album of the same name. “Being Latino in the United States means speaking several languages and that is something we’ll hear on this podcast. Many artists speak to us in Spanglish to tell us they’re writing lyrics for the first time in Spanish, then in English, or with just a few phrases in Spanish. It’s creativity in different forms from where they are in life and how they wish to express it,” Castro said.Song Exploder is also an award-winning Netflix series, in which the musicians dismantle their songs bit by bit to tell the story of how they were composed. This series has presented some of the world’s greatest artists – Fleetwood Mac, U2, Billie Eilish, Solange, Metallica, The Roots, Dua Lipa and more – breaking down the sounds and ideas with which their songs were composed and recorded. This has been reviewed as “warm, deep and illuminating” by The New Yorker, and considered as “probably the best use of the podcast format” by Vulture. In addition, The New York Times praised the program as “full of serious lines of honesty, cinematic production and a look behind the scenes at the creative process.” “The world of Latin Music is enormous, spanning so many countries and so many types of people, while the audience for all that music is vast. Some years ago I began to ask myself whether it would be possible to take Song Exploder and its stories of creativity to all those people. I didn’t know much about podcasts in Spanish, but I do know Martina Castro to be a great hostess, producer and ambassador, so I asked her if she’d llke to work with me to make that dream come true. I’m very excited to be associated with her and with Adonde to create that style of entertainment and take it to many new listeners,” said Hrishikesh Hirway, creator de Song Exploder and executive producer of Cancion Exploder. The new episodes of Cancion Exploder are to be published every two weeks pm Wednesday and will be available free on request for listeners around the world on all the leading podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music and iVoox.“This is undoubtedly a super unique format , really special. The artists take songs to pieces that are not necessarily the most listened to or the most popular, and that tells you something super intimate and personal about them. It gives you the artists’ perspective of the music and of their creative spirit, of who they are and how to know them through their songs,” he said. Adonde Media, one of the production companies, has been hailed for its work on such podcasts as Duolingo Spanish, TED en Español, Entrepreneurs with Luis Von Ahn, The Last Days of Maradona, Vivo Songbook and After Ayotzinapa. For more information about the series, see cancionexploder.com The launch season for Cancion Exploder is a testimony to the diversity of today’s Latin Music. These are artists who call many different countries home and tell their stories in a stunning variety of accents” Castro said.
