The musician and activist Bono will receive the first edition of the Cannes LionHeart award

The organizers of the 61st edition of the Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival will award Bono, the activist and Irish band U2 singer, with the first Cannes LionHeart prize for being the first in the organization (RED).(RED) is a creative fusion of branding, activism and philanthropy that have generated more than US$250 million in the fight against the HIV/AIDS in African countries, where more than 40 million people have been given with prevention services, counselling, tests and treatment thanks to this initiative. Cannes LionHeart acknowledges the person or organization that through the innovative power of commercial brands, have made a significant and positive difference for people or the planet.Bono was the co-founder of (RED) in 2006, along with Bobby Shriver, to involve the world’s most iconic brands like Apple, Starbucks or Coca-Cola in the fund raising and awareness of the fight against the HIV/AIDSA. “Bono has used his fame to set a global brand successfully, through which he has establish unique relationships to raise awareness and achieve a better world for human kind,” Terry Savage, Lions Festivals’ president, commented. “We are very happy and we are privileged that Bono shares his inspiring experience with the Cannes Lions public.”The LionHeart award will be given to Bono next Saturday night June 21st, during the final award ceremony of the Festival.
