Saavedra: Nuestros 20 mejores directores pueden competir en cualquier parte del mundo
Landia won four awards in the Ciclope’s Festival first edition, and its director, Rodrigo Saavedra noted that the quality of South American production has improved greatly in the last 5 years. “We used to be a continent with only one country standing out internationally -Argentina. Now we have good directors that are learning a lot in many other Latin American countries, so I believe that’s important to attend and win in this type of festivals” he told PRODU. “Because it is its first edition it may not reach the levels of other international festivals, but it seems that all the most important contenders were here this year. For me is a great honor wining an award in this festival.” Landia’s pieces awarder are: Anagram Lovers, Posiciones (positions) and Francés (French) Go. For Saavedra the pieces are very different and only have something in common: they are bold and visually stunning. “An awarded movie can’t be done without a strong idea from the beginning, and these three pieces have strong ideas but also are very visually rich and very singular from the esthetic point of view.” For the director, Latin American creativity is very strong in craft. “We still aren’t London, but our 20 best directors can compete anywhere in the world. Is a little like international football, the field of the game has been leveled off.” Landia will continue to pursue great quality production in the future.
