Volkswagen North America will compensate owners of diesel vehicles after the scandal that unleashed in September when it was revealed that these cars have a software that falsifies their polluting emissions. The program, called Customer Goodwill Package, includes a US$500 prepaid Visa card that can be used for any purchase and a US$500 “dealership card” that can be used for purchases at VW dealerships, such as credit for a new car or accessories. They are also offering free 24-hour roadside assistance for three years to affected automobile owners. “We are working tirelessly to develop an approved remedy for affected vehicles” said Michael Horn, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, in a statement. “In the meantime, we are providing this Goodwill Package as a first step towards regaining our customers’ trust”.The implementation details of the program still haven´t been revealed. Volkswagen’s U.S. creative agency of record is Deutsch, L.A. and its PR firm is Edelman.The automobile company has been under close scrutiny by the Environmental Protection Agency since September 18th. Numerous class-action lawsuits accusing Volkswagen with fraud have been filed in recent weeks.
