This fall, thousands of parents will send their children to college for the first time, reaching the ultimate goal of their lives, until now. However, for the American Hispanic population, sending a child to college is not only important for the student but also for the whole family now. Certainly, starting college is a family issue.According to the Pew Research Center, Hispanics “have made great advances in college enrollment, an indicator including colleges and universities of two and four years.” With so many young Hispanics in college this fall, how can families make their children feel comfortable being away from home?.The expert in interior design, home improvement and co-founder of Casa Latina, Marlene Pratt, shares her personal experience and tips on how families can make the transition to college for their children, now college students, easier.Marlene said: “I will never forget my first day at college. My whole family accompanied me to prepare my bedroom and my mom packed up food for a whole week in containers marked with weekdays.””So I am working with JCPenney to help families prepare for the first day of college. I’ll share my personal experience and design training to make sure they are prepared and have the essential things ready for the moving day,” she said.
